OK. I had an EL34 PP amp and I didn't like them. No highs at all. The KT77 solved that problem. The PP amp i have now uses KT88/6550 and KT66. I like the GE 6550A, but it lacks the top-end of the KT66. Mine are current production Gold Lions. MY KT77s were current production Tung-Sol.
I also have some GEKT88 from Shuguang, a much better tube than its price reflects, if they are still made.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
Follow Ups:
I have a Cary SLI-80 and I tried vinatge GEC KT66 with it. Did't like the sound at all - only midrange, no bass, no HF extension...
EL34s: quite good (I tried RFT and Teles EL-34) - very transparent midrange but less dynamics as compared to 6550 and KT-88.
I've tried this tube in several Marshall amps. Very nice tone. Bit cleaner with more headroom than most modern EL34. A couple sets have been in amps, for awhile. Seems to be reliable.
