Have to agree Mechans, as a driver for my amps I have always found the RCA 5962 redbass and Raytheon/Sylvania 5692 brownbase to be real dogs, very soft and undynamic, much prefer the RCA greyglass VT-231 and National Union black glass if I want something full and rich sounding. They never stay more than a day in my Rogue. Never understood the love and high prices these tubes garner, maybe they are great in preamps?

You obviously did not read my post the 5692 are super good in preamps.
I have them in my Rogue
I see your post. And in another post you ask which other 6sn7s to try. You should try some different tubes before you declare the Redbase to be the best.
Also you don't need to use matched quads, two matched pairs (of different types) used for front and back positions in the mu follower circuit will work better and offer more variety. And it's easier and cheaper to find matched pairs.
Borrow some pairs from your buddy and try some different combos. I would start with pairs of Sylvania's to start, they are very different from the Redbase that you are using.
Enjoy the roll!
