for installation in my APL NWO-M universal player. I am looking for NOS tubes made in Holland and am willing to pay for the best model and vintage.
My current tubes are Mullards which have served me well, but have about 5000 to 6000 hours on them and are beginning to sound a bit tired (lose of detail, tonal accuracy, etc.).
Secondly, what are the best web sites to contact, both from an availability and price point of view.
Thanks.
Pete
Follow Ups:
Are their any tubes available in the marketplace today that are not only compatible replacements for the E182CC/7119, but due to newer technology, materials, etc. are superior to the best of the NOS tubes made in Holland over 30 years ago, and are still directly interchangeable. If superior, how so?
Thanks
Pete
I can't think of any current production tube like the 7119 except for the ECC99 which would require that you rewire the socket. The best bet is to try several different variants of the 7044 / 7119 / 5687 tube types. Ned Carlson turned me on to the 7119 in the 1980s so I have amassed a bit of a lifetime supply. Never the less, despite my stock of 7119 tubes, I find that with the operating points I use, I prefer the TungSol 5687. They are available on epay quite cheaply if you are patient.
