As I have documented in some other threads, I am in love with the GE JAN 5751 late 60's early 70's. Some are labeled JG-5751, others labeled JAN 5751. As far as I can tell, this is arbitrary. Or so it seems. The tube regardless seems the same.Except for one detail. And what I think is an important one. Some of these do indeed sound better to me than others, and I have noted one design difference in those that sound exceptional to me.
The getter in all types is an O-getter. But in some variants the ring is notably smaller and thinner. It is the tubes with the smaller ring that sound best to me. (edit... it seems that the larger type is actually a closed ring. I am looking for the non-closed ring type)
My question is this. Since you can't seem to identify this difference in the naming conventions, what clues, other than inspecting the tube, should one look for to identify whether the tube has the larger or smaller getter? For instance, is this something that can be identified by year of manufacture?
Thanks
Andrew

Just for reference, after the tube is manufactured, the getter ring/dish inside the tube does absolutely nothing.
Unless it comes loose, at which point it can create havoc.
AH! Never mind...
I think I have figured it out. The type I am looking for is a halo getter.
The other type is a closed getter.
Thanks!
Andrew
