Anyone using EH 12bh7? How do you like them? Sonic attributes? Could they be on the lean side with unrefined highs?
About to roll them to something that is fuller...ie...richer/denser(more body) bass and mids. Smoother and more relaxed HF (less HF energy)
Only NOS I am able to source at the moment is....Westinghouse 12bh7a grey plates. Am I going in right direction?
Thanks

A lot of people like the GE version, and both gray and black plate RCAs. There was a thread recently about the US-made Raytheon BP 12BH7 also. If your amp can handle a tube with lower plate resistance and somewhat higher filament draw, then the JJ ECC99 is a possibility. It definitely is smoother and warmer sounding than the EH.
If your amp uses the 12V ( internal series) filament connection, the 12FQ7 is a possibility too. It has a slightly higher plate resistance but it shouldn't be a problem. If your amp uses the more common 6V (internally parallel) filament connection, then the 12FQ7 won't work, and 6CG7/6FQ7 also won't work without modifications, but you can sub a 12AU7, though it is a less linear tube. There are a vast number of different 12AU7s around but I have no experience with them.
I recommend the EH quite often. It has the EH "house sound" with an energetic top end and what I think are quite good mids and decent bass. But I always try to use them with other warmer toned tubes - and then I think they are really good!
What are you using the 12BH7 in, and what other tubes are in the unit?
@Jim McShane...I am using them with Psvane 12ax7 and Gold Lion Kt-88 reissues...in a Line Magnetic 216ia int amp. Too lean which tilts overall balance to being top heavy at the moment with the EH12bh7.
Will the Westinghouse grey plates help or will it be somewhat a lateral move?
Thanks.
I honestly don't know, as I'm not familiar with the Psvane.
