Im surprised you find that the KT77 "blows". It's a beam tetrode just like the 6L6GC/KT66 and true 6CA7. I find that a true 77 sounds a lot like a 6CA7 and in some respects there's a resemblence to a 6550. Or to put it another way, I find beam tetrodes have a family sound just as the pentodes have their sound. It's not so much related to what was marketed as a sub for whatever. Just my opinion of course.

Try the GL KT66 and Tungsol 6L6G.
They sound COMPLETELY different.
EL34 and KT77 is nowhere near as good
as either of them in any respect.
All the things EL34 are known for
are bested by the 6L6G.
Warmth, midrange intimacy and smooth highs.
All the things the KT77 is known for
are bested by the KT66.
Dynamic, clarity and extension.
Mendel may have not been diplomatic
but was correct in his assessment.

Haven't compared the (presumably) Russian stuff you mention but I have compared vintage GEC KT66 with vintage 6L6G and GC and while there are minor differences, they're more similar than different. I find vintage 77s and 6CA7s impart a bit of a 6L6 like character to amps designed around EL34s.
Maybe the current Russian products are different enough from their vintage ancestors that comparisons betw them aren't meaningful.
You must use alot of feedback.
I use them in SE triode with no feedback
and there is across the board differences.

...You're referring to triode strapped pentodes/beamies while I'm thinking pentodes as pentodes. Apples to pears. And yes, a pentode is going to require some corrective feedback although not necessarily "lots".
Pentodes NEED ALOT of feedback or
would have a huge output impedance.
UL would get by with some feedback.
