I've just received a pair of new Pavane 845 valves and I'm installing them into my Consonance Cyber 845 mono-block power amps.
The amps have a Bias Voltage adjustment pot, but I've no idea what to set it to. I've mislaid the amp's instruction book too!
4.7 volts rings a bell, but if anyone could suggest what is best, I'd appreciate that. On testing the existing voltage with the original valves, I find it to be 4.5 ish, but I've not touched them for some years.
Incidentally these "Pavane" Hi-Fi valves appear structurally IDENTICAL to bog-standard Chinese Shuguang 845s except that the base is gold plated and the pins are a little longer.
I bought a pair of Shuguang 845Cs some while ago, but one arrived from China broken. These are structurally quite different and sound very good - although I can only test one channel! Can anyone suggest a supplier of these 845Cs, preferable in UK?
Thanks
Peter

Not in the UK, but they will stand by product even damage from shipping.

Thanks, but unfortunately no 845 offerings from Tubestore as far as I can see.

Not sure how you missed it.
Either type in "845" in the search box or click on Shuguang under "Manufacturers"
Which Search box are you referring to - Audio Asylum, Google or what? I have of course tried both AA and Google and not found the spec of 856 valves marked as Psvane Hi-Fi.
Where are you suggesting I'd find a box where Shuguang can be found as a Manufacturer? There's no Manufacturer list on this site as far as I can see.
Links would be most helpful. My valves have no Shuguang markings - only Psvane. Although, as I said in my original posting, this valve LOOKS identical to standard Shuguang, I don't KNOW that it is, hence my request for a link to a spec of Psvane marked valves.

The search box in the link below.

I still can't understand why anybody is buying Psvane tubes.
"I still can't understand why anybody is buying Psvane tubes."
Why do you say that? What do you have against the Psvane? They (and standard Shuguang) are very good value and often the only 845s available.
I have a single 845C from Shuguang that is undoubtedly better, but I can't source another. Its pair was damaged in transit from China to UK. Can you suggest an source of single 845C or suggest a significantly better alternative to the Psvane?
Peter
Shuguang tubes are generally quite good, but I wouldn't spend additional money on the same tube to have some unpronouncable word painted on the glass and some gold coating applied to the base.
Thanks, but did I pay over the odds for this valve? I paid £109 for a matched pair, inclusive of delivery to my UK address and all taxes.
If you could suggest a source of better 845 tubes, that would be constructive and helpful and would be greatly appreciated.
Peter
I'd spend the extra $10-20 to get the Shuguang 845B's.
Used them today in my Cary 805AE's.
Google is your friend.
Yes 4.7 or 4.8 volts looks right
That link doesn't work for me.When I go to the main page and products the manual link is greyed out?

Anyway, the manufacturer has the manuals on their site, like they should. It would seem that the poster should have taken a cursory glance at that site first.
Well I did a Google search and could find no specification for "Psvane 845 Hi Fi" tubes. There are other Psvane 845 specifications (845T and 845 WE Replica), and none of those spec sheets mentions "Bias Voltage" Perhaps you could offer a link that shows the spec (including this voltage) for Psvane 845 Hi Fi tubes?
Thanks
Peter
An 845 is an 845 unless it is broken or defective. The meter measures the current through the tube. The brand of tube does not matter in setting bias, it is the tube type, 845.
You said "The amps have a Bias Voltage adjustment pot, but I've no idea what to set it to. I've mislaid the amp's instruction book too!" This information is on their site.

But is an 845B or 845C or 845T, just an 845 as far as bias voltage is concerned?
Maybe they are all identical electrically, but I wouldn't take that as gospel until I've seen the manufacturer's spec. I recently bought "standard" 845s but have been unable to find a spec where Bias Voltage (voltage not current) is stated.
As I said in my initiating post, I seem to remember 4.7V as the figure I should set the amp to.
