I always thought 10's had tungsten filaments, some do some don't.
The Raytheon 4-pillars don't, just regular type, but the Tung-Sol's do.
Is the "sound" associated with 10's about the tungsten filament, or
is it the rest of it's characteristics?

Its the rest of it that gives its characteristics. Some in the 10 family had thoriated tungsten filaments. Mostly 10Y/VT-25s, which I believe were transmission tubes.

Still have a pair, NEW NOS, tested while still sealed in the original RCA boxes, all without removing the original staples!
OK. I have/had a few of the early RCA globes. I also have a pair of Cunningham 310s (double glass rod)with paper work. It was NOT easy to find a pair of them NOS. Out of all of the 10s I've tried, the ones on that family I liked the most are RCA 801As (not identical but interchangeable).
Enjoy

Make sure you end up using them someday, or specify them to be in the casket with you. :-)My fear is saving the really primo tubes long enough to lose my hearing.

They check in on my health status often.
"How's the old boy doin'", they ask.
"Does he still have a basement full of old tubes?"
... and how about his supply of amorphous iron? ;-)
