I must admit that I'm a 7N7 convert. I'm using JAC's adapters but wondering how hard it would be to install loctal sockets. Not sure if the Cary sockets are PCB mounted. Does anyone know what installing loctal sockets in this application would involve?
Thanks in advance...

Unfortunately I do not have a current use for any of these (or others I have stashed away).
Ever tried 6F8G?
You retain your flexibility to use 6SN7 types and electrical equivalents with different adapters by sticking with the octal sockets.
I too enjoy the 7N7 (and AF7 which is a little different electrically than 6SN7GT), but am far from sold that it's the best of these various tubes, sonically.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
The 7N7 tubes from JAC sound very good after the adapters are broken in. That is in my system: Cary SLP 05, Art Audio Jota with EML 520B power tubes and Tannoy 215 DMT II loudspeakers. YMMV.
I'm not saying that 7N7 is the best sonically, but it's the best choice for the money at this time; better than spending crazy bucks on new production Psvane, or other overpriced Sino 6SN7 tubes IMHO.
In my 300B SET system, other good 6SN7 choices are EH, which sounds very linear to me; and TS which sounds more rolled off. But even these choices are more expensive than 7N7 right now.
I buy NOS Sylvania 6SN7GTA for $15 to $20 each + shipping on ebay. The GTA series guarantees the more desirable early to mid 1950s stock. As mentioned I believe you are hearing this Sylvania design in the 7N7 tube.
With careful shopping the initial investment can be recovered if the tubes do not meet your requirements. And, 6SN7s have so many options from various manufactures vs the 7N7.
Agreed! Unless someone has an argument that 7N7 actually sound better, I will stick with NOS 6sn7. Still easy to find, relatively affordable and huge sonic variety to choose from.
BTW-
I believe most if not all 7N7 tubes have the Sylvania 6SN7 later (post 1950) plates placed on an angle vs earlier 'mirror image' opposed plates. The Sylvania 6SN7GTA is my favorite 6SN7. Never heard the expensive Tung Sol 6SN7 round plate that is regarded the best 6SN7.
The 7AF7 has round plates and performs like a 6SN7. 7AF7 prices on ebay is out of line. vacuumtubes.com have NOS 7AF7s for $11 each.
From the pictures I've found the sockets are PCB mounted.

"Still Working the Problem"
The modification can be performed with either a printed circuit board or hard wired due to both socket types are available. It would be a time consuming task if hard wired. PCB mounted sockets would be easier with the proper soldering tools.
7N7 have a different pinout to 6SN7 so pcb loctal sockets are a no-no . I wonder what these adapters do with the spigot connection ? Left floating can cause hum
Al
That's right, PCB sockets will not work. The PCB traces could be cut and rewired to force the 7N7 to work, but.....

Out of curiosity and an oversized collection of 6SN7s how much do 7N7s cost. I have to agree with the post that NOS (used) Sylvania 6SN7GTAs angled plate and GTBs don't cost much more than $10-15. How many do you need I don't know if I even have them so this is not an ad. It just surprises me that such a ubiquitous tube should cost very much. That is no reflection on their sound quality which can be quite good, in the right circumstance.

Not a bad price for closely matched NOS quads. And they are very quiet in my preamp.
