I had an Audible Illusions preamp that I put 6DJ8 tubes into - and I fell asleep listening to some classical music. Meanwhile, the tube heated up and started to arc, apparently to the point of the tube vacuum breaking and sparks caught onto the sheer curtains that I used as room treatments.
When the firemen finally came to put out my home, now s blazing inferno - it was too late to save the Audible Illusions pre...and I barely escaped with my record collection - oh, and my life.
Lesson learned - a 6DJ8 may cost you your life, but they sound better than most all other 6922 type tubes, so it may be worth it.
A bit of fiction - well, a whole lot of fiction - but I wanted to give you a HORROR story! :)

Well, that's scary enough.
One of my horror stories on tubes is that an EL34 tube of an int amp over heated and failed after I moved to a different house. Somebody suggested me that I should have rebiased the amp in a new house.
Anyway, I've been using Amperex 6JD8 Bugle Boy in my BAT VK30 for about 10 hours, and there has been no sign of over heating or acting up. It had Tesla JJ 6922 tubes before. I hear some difference of sound, more open and a bit more clear. No microphonic noise either. So, I guess it is a success case, at least till now.

I have used 6922's, 7308's, and 6DJ8's in my Cary SLI-80 with no problems with any of them. NOS Amperex 6DJ8's in now for many hours no problems yet. Crossing my fingers.
