A recent post spoke about spotting on plates. Here's a tube I've saved just to show what loss can look like....likely from a contaminated surface, or oxide coating during manufacture. The other plate looks fine. This is an RCA 12AX7. I have not tested, nor listened it to see what it does.
Any other thoughts?

Looks to be severe overheating.
...but I've never seen or heard of a 12AX7 driven to overheat to the point of burning off the plate coating.

you never owned a Radiotron tube ray-gun.

.....well I have a Quasar/Gz3.1 Beam Rocket Sling-Shot. I'm sure it could take out any wimpy Radiotron Tube Ray Gun simply by pointing at it. What else ya got?
