I had EH KT88's in my Cary SLI-80 when I first got it. They sounded OK until I put in the GL re-issues. What a difference!!! The Gold Lions made the EH sound thin and harsh.
The Gold lions made the sound much more brilliant and detailed in every way.
They are quite a bit more $s but I wouldn't hesitate doing it again.
As a side note I have TS KT120's in now and am very happy with those also.

@Marlin...Verses the EH...did the Goldlion KT-88 have any effect on size of image and overall density of sound...especially on vocals. I am seeking a fuller sound with larger size of image. How about the bass? Thanks!
As I remember (it has been about four years ago) the music was fuller, had more balls across the spectrum. Bass was fuller and more defined. Vocals were crisper without being shrill. The image was deeper and wider. I don't think you will be disappointed with them.
The reasons I don't use them now is I thought they crapped out too soon.(I hear that is no longer a problem). I had two quads and some went down before 1,000 hrs, others not much better.
And I wanted to try some 6550's. I think I still have a quad left in the closet.
Jim McShane swears by them and that is good enough for me.
They are more expensive but that was nothing compared with the improvement.
@Marlin. Oops sorry...forgot I asked about any increase in density of female vocals in a previous post.
I wouldn't call it increased density just more detailed and more "life" in the vocals.
I listen to a lot of female vocalists from Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Lucinda Williams to Diana Krall and you can hear more subtlety to the voices. Made it more believable.
@Marlin...Thank you for your feedback. The Gold Lions reissue KT-88 sounds like something my system needs. Do you recall an increase in density especially female vocals and instrument size against the EH? Thanks!
