Tube sockets must be fine though, since RCA 6SL7's work as they should. Tube pins though - that's a good idea.

You really can't make that assumption. The pin diameters could be different for one. And sometimes just the act of removing and reinstalling a tube will restore contact.
Clean the sockets well!
That's a good point, Jim. Hadn't considered pin diameter differences from vintage to new, you may be on to something.
