What are your preference with KT-66 power tubes? I believe it is a viable option vs KT-88 for my DIY amp with fixed bias and 420 volts plate.
Follow Ups:
In my experience the Gold Lion KT66 is one of the best sounding currently manufactured power tubes in existence.
The KT66 will have the best highs
that you could dream of.
The Genelex has the best tonal balance
of the other KT66s.
Beware if you are looking for warmth
then look elsewhere.
Clarity and extension are it's strengths.

DanL, I prefer clarity and accuracy. The KT66 should be excellent.
I should also say I run them in SE triode.

The original smoke glass is still the best, IMO. The GL re-issue is very much comparable to the vintage clear glass type.
Vintage GEC Gray glass brown base are the gold standard but the Gold Lion's from Jim are so close I sold most of my vintage tubes and use the new ones. THey are that good.
I came to a similar conclusion. New production power tubes are excellent and I'd rather have to a tested/matched set of them than 'iffy' used tubes.
Walter I thought the gray glass were slightly better as well but then the more hours I put on the reissues, the closer they were to the gray glass.

KT66s are my favorite power tube. They have a purity of tone and coherence that I think is unmatched by the other pentode/kinkless tetrode types. The Genalex re-issue is superb (I've never heard the original). I've heard Saratov (no longer made) and Valve Art (Chinese): both were very good.
