Since most liked the Gold Lion KT-88s I ordered two quads from Musician's Friend on line.
The "hard" tubes are only $96 per quad today. I suspect that has to do with sound, the order taker thinks it has to do with thickness of glass. At $96/quad and free shipping I decided to take a chance.
The ratings were hard, medium and soft. If it is sound quality that's being rated:
1. Do these guys really have time to burn in tubes long enough to determine sound quality?
2. Does "hard" mean early clipping/low emission or what? Or would that be for "soft" tubes?
Anyway, thanks to all for the advice. And will let you know how they and our Allen organ amps sound
See separate thread in Tubes/DIY on those.
Follow Ups:
Sure that isn't $96 a pair.( which would be a pretty good price) Never heard of a new quad of GL KT 88's going for less than $200. Even at the MF site, I'm getting $234 for a quad when I typed in GL KT 88 "hard".
If those are Gold Lion KT88s for 96 dollars that is definitely for a pair.
