Hi Guys. Sourcing for sovtek 5v4 online. Can only come up with 5v4g.anyone know what's the difference? Some sites list 5v4g however it's a pic of 5u4c. What's up with that? Is it an identical substitute? Also...anyone using RAC 5v4? How do they compare? Thanks.

Russian and Chinese ST bottle 5U4 "equivalents" are GARBAGE. Steer clear!
The 5V4 and the 5U4 are not equivalent. NOS RCA 5V4GA tubes are just fine.

@Eli Duttman. Oh by the way...searched internet and came up with 2 variants of the RCA 5V4GA...black or gray plates. Which one would yield a more refined top end?
but simply the change in rail voltage that a 5AR4/GZ34 produces. Rectifier tubes are a trial and error and the voltage and current that comes thru with one tube vs the other is what will dictate the differences in sonic purity.

@Eli Duttman. Thank you for your feedback. Need your help once again. My amps were fitted with 5z4 originally. Replaced with sovtek 5ar4 as I had difficulty sourcing decent 5z4 at that time. 5ar4 sound "hard" and it gives me listening fatigue. Would switching to sovtek 5v4 or the rca be a lateral move? Should I continue to source for a decent 5z4?
The 5AR4 probably sounds "hard" due to increased B+ rail voltage.
Look for the 6087/5Y3WGTB. Unlike other 5Y3 variants, it has a cathode sleeve and is quite close to the 5Z4. FWIW, RES has a $25 listing for the 6087/5Y3WGTB.

@Eli Duttman & Michael Samra....Thank you..:)
