In Reply to: RE: Stupid question about rectifier tubes. 6X4/EZ90 types. posted by Eli Duttman on December 30, 2014 at 19:18:26
Was thinking on building a end to end loctal PP amp using the 7C5 which is kind of a 6v6 loctal equivalent.
Never got around to it even as I had some old EL84 Eico Iron laying around at the time.
May actually have a Amperex or Mullard EZ90 or EZ91 laying around somewhere.
If not I am sure I can find one for a few bucks, rather than hacking the circuit.
Follow Ups:
RES has a $5 listing for the 6X4. If they actually have stock, jump all over the deal.
Watch the heater draw, if you switch types. The 70 mA. DC rectifiers draw "only" 600 mA.

They ended up buying the complete inventory of the late Bill Davis at Salt Lake Instrument. Over a million tubes he had collected during the decades he was in business, including to Geiger Counter repairs during the Utah uranium boom!
Miss Bill a lot, he was a great old guy. Landed on Normandy multiple times as he was a pilot on the landing craft. Made it well into his 90's still showing up for work each day.
I spend many an hour digging through those millions of tube, and bought WAY TOO MANY! Many at bargain prices though.
$5 for a NOS 6X4 is a good price. Rather have a Mullard or Amperex EZ90 though.
