I thought I'd add my two cents as I have a VTA ST-70. I have used the EH EL34 and personally found them to sound gritty and soul less in the ST-70 circuit. (Stock or Modded) I tried the Mullard Re-issues and didn't like them too much either. I finally decided on the Genalex Gold Lion KT66 and found the sound to be full, impressive, warm and brought out the best in my ST-70. I hope you find the right tubes because this girl can pump out some great sounding music.

Don't you have to change resistors in the bias supply to run the KT66? I have the original St-70 circuit.
The Mullard EL34 reissue is bland, though it has good focus.
Have you heard the EH 6CA7?
On my original ST-70 board, yes I did have to change that. However, I decided to go big or go home and bought the VTA ST-70 board Octal Version. I have never...ever looked back.

I do like the 6SN7. I might try one of those boards one of these days...
It is totally worth it. Originallly I ran my regular board for a year and a half. However th caps were starting to go and I figured it was time to upgrade the old girl. Did you know there is a forum specifically for our ST-70s?
Jonathan
Yes, thanks. There are several forums with a lot of Dynaco info, actually.
