Does anyone know which stock 12au7's come with this preamp. I am trying to determine whether the tubes in the one I just bought (pre-owned) are stock or NOS. Seller gave me two sets: "RT" and Mullard 12au7/ECC8182 (not sure of latter designation). The Mullards are in now and sound glorious, but you know how it is. Not sure what vintage Mullards are.
Do you have any recommendations for 12au7's for this startingly clean and transparent pre? Thanks.
Happy holidays.

The CBS 5814A tubes are among the best sounding tubes - very neutral. The 13D5 tubes are very lively sounding - but not a good match for your pre that is clean and transparent. A sleeper tube is the RCA 5814A, a bit creamy and beautiful - but less so compared to the Mullard box plates - so you get a bit more detail and better bass, without losing the midrange warmth.
The 5814A RCA is a 1950's tube with 3 mica black plates.
Best 12AU7 I heard are Brimar 13D5. A seller called Tubemonger has these Brimar 13D5 tubes in stock. Next best were Hytron 5814.
Note- I have no affiliation with Tubemonger.
If you posted photos of the tubes you have, we could tell you what they were.
Here is photo. The tube reads, "Mullard ECC82 12 AU7 Made in Great Britain" and it looks like there are the letters "BVA" in a circle beneath the 12 AU7. Sorry for the horizontal photo.
Those look similar to the Mullards I tried on My Rouge Audio Aeres, I'll say maybe 60's try some Telefunkens I like them more than the Mullards, more detail more 3D sound stage, better lows and highs in my opinion.
Also look for some FAT MAT or HUSH MAT in Amazon and dampen the chassis that will bring out more micro & macro detail better resolution and more musical. I dampened everything in my system except my turntable it weights 90 lbs. so need for that.
I will be posting photos next time I open up the pre, probably in next few days. Thx.

I really like the the Hytron 5814. Somewhat hard to find though but very detailed and transparent. Sometimes I put them in place of my 12at7's. Very similar to the Gec CV6091/A2900 but at a much lower gain. Mullards are nice but a little warmer sound and not really my cup of tea.
My personal opinion of course YMMV
