I've a lampizator DHT dac which uses 2A3 tubes. I recently bought Sophia Electric 300B carbon plate 2.5v. Right out of the box, there is significant improvement of sound. It is clearly better than EML mesh plate 2A3. I also tried Ken Rad 2A3 while they are very musical, I'm loving the Sophias more. However, there is an issue. The tube sockets on the dac is pretty tight and the 300B tubes from Sophia has a big shoulder. Hence, the tubes come in contact with each other. I want to know if this is bad for tube life and/or compromised sonics.
Your help is greatly appreciated. I'm posting a pic here.

Maybe this would work: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-U-97-U-4-PIN-TUBE-TEST-SOCKET-ADAPTER-Mil-Spec-NOS-/221607723006
Thanks Jareb! This forum is the best. Happy holidays everyone!
Just heard back from tubemonger; unfortunately they don't have any 4 pin type socket saver/extender. My dac needs a 4 pin one. Any other vendors?
You really can just leave it that way.
Thanks for the feedback Caucasian Blackplate! One minor thing is bothering me though. Given the two tubes glasses are in contact with each other, they are picking up vibration easily. For example, when I listen to music very loud, they vibrate. Of course, I can't detect any noise when the music is playing. But if I pause the music, I hear the ringing noise through my speaker which last for couple of second and then dies down. Even though the noise is minuscule and not heard at all when music is playing. Just wanted to make sure this is nothing to worry about.
You can get a sheet of cork at your local autoparts store and put a small piece between the glass envelopes to eliminate and vibration between them.
Good tips. I'll try that. Thank you!
Get some teflon tape (plumber's tape), fold over a small piece and slide it between the tubes.
It's cheap and easy to acquire, you can control the thickness by how much you fold it, it's essentially
impervious to heat and should look better than a piece of cork.
It will provide enough "cushion" to stop any ringing between the tubes.

It's not a problem.
Had a similar issue. Used a socket extender on adjacent tube and that gave clearance.
Thanks unclestu! Where did you get the socket extender from? Any link will be very helpful. Also, using socket extender didn't deteriorate sound? Do you know if tubes touching each other picks up vibration easily - is it bad?
Thanks,
I nave used tube extenders from Tubemonger and have had zero problems with them. http://www.tubemonger.com/
Very helpful! Thank you for the link.

You are most welcome, Tubemonger is a very reputable dealer, I would have no problem recommending them. Very helpful as well.
