The reviews of the Rogue look very interesting to me. The NuForce DDA-100 I'm using has tremendous resolving power, and I wonder would the Cronus Magnum and a quality outboard DAC resolve as much or more micro detail than the DDA-100, or would I loose a little in that area ?
Thanks
Bruce

I can't speak for the Nuforce, but I have had two different class D amps on quaility outboard DACs. I now own a Cronus Magnum and can say that I am not missing a thing. I feel the Cronus resolves very well, reveals a deeper soundstage and produces an overall better listening experience than any class D amp I have owned.
That's like comparing apples and grapefruits.
What makes you think the NuForce is so resolving?
What makes you think it isn't ?

Never heard the Nuforce and never said it wasn't resolving. I do know that many of the highly resolving amps I have heard sound that way by emphasizing the leading edge of the note, usually to the detriment of the tone and sustain of the harmonics. For example you hear all the finger work on the strings of a guitar, but lose some of the wood body tone and decay of the note. This is one big area of difference between most solid state and tube amps. These days, the best solid state gear (read expensive) gets (most) of the tone and decay of the note, while even modest priced tube gear has become more resolving than in the past.
I have a Rogue Stereo 90 and I would not call it a resolution champ, although that aspect was much improved after modifying the caps, resistors and wiring. But it sounds more like real music than my solid state Quad 606 or a Sim Audio W-3 that I have used in my system.
The only way to find out if the Rogue has the resolution you want is to try it in your system.
I've been trying to get an open box or trade in Cronus Magnum to try at home, but a 50lb shipping bill two ways, and 15% restocking fee if I don't like it seems a little steep.
I'm not very familiar with that NuForce but I do think it would be like comparing apples to strawberries to oranges.
First the Cronus Magnum is a tube amp. The NuForce is not only Solid-State, it is Class D, and not just any Class D but direct-digital Class D. It is very 'different'.
I can tell you that the Cronus Magnum is a wonderful sounding tube integrated amp but if your fetish is ultra-detail and transparency above all, then the Cronus Magnum might not be for you. However, I find it immensely musical.
I also own the more costly ARC VSi-60 tube integrated. It is more transparent and 'clear' vs the Rogue but the Rogue is more full-bodied and robust...... and 1/2 the price of the ARC. I like both amps a lot. Both amps are vacuum tube designs with KT120 power tubes but even they are different.
IMHO, the Rogue is the no-brainer choice for value and incredible sonics.
