Ordered the tubes linked below based on my positive experience with their 2A3. Strange thing is, I cannot fit them all the way into the tube socket. The fit is much too tight and I do not dare push down any harder. There is a 2 - 3 mm gap between the bottom of the tube and the top of the socket. Here is a link to the socket I am using:

These sockets are known for their snugness, but c'mon. All the other EL34 types that I have tried fit properly. That being said, there is sufficient contact that I can still use them and they sound quite nice, but I find that gap rather unsettling. I have informed the seller but I would like to get your take. Any similar experiences? Sorry for the crappy image. Cheers.

I avoid anything made in China; you can find the good ones on epay most of the time search for: "Amphenol Steatite" or "amphenol socket" or "cinch socket".
I have a tube socket with a similar but perhaps minimally smaller gap. I have used it for many hours without even a hint of a problem. I would be interested to hear what others say.
Steve
Sometimes solder can wick up the solder tabs blocking the tube pin from completely inserting into the socket.
