I recently purchased a Vincent SP331MK Stereo AMP.
They have been using for the 5or 6 yrs.
(1)12AU7 and (2) 6N16 Sub Minis7-wire.
After a burn of 120Hrs. I decided to ck-out the insides.
WHAT no 12AU7. Instead ECC-91/6J6A with no Mfg name.BUT GOLD PINS.
Not a NOS. Tube was never used as a Audio grade Valve that more test
gear that I can research.
How dose the Amp sound? Very detailed. No colorations
Violins have good timber tones. Nora Jones voice. Just lovely!!
These can be had for 2 to $3 bucks. Did the Mfg go on the CHEAP?
Or has the Vincent engineers. I.e. discovered a here-to hidden sonic JEWEL.
Thoughts and incites on this tube appreciated.

Given the common cathode connection, the 6J6 was "born" to be a LTP phase splitter. It's non-linearities mean diddly squat, in that role, especially with a CCS in the tail.
Transconductance is high and plate resistance is low. Both of those characteristics are favorable. The amplification factor (μ) of 38 is "modest". Compare that with 60 in the 12AT7, another high gm/low R P type.

The CCS is the key to getting good performance out of these. Even if you don't use these as a differential amp, CCS's on the plates and a decent amount of current/bias voltage will keep performance reasonable.
6J6's have been used in audio previously. 7 pin tubes aren't particularly popular, so they are mostly very inexpensive. If the tube you have has gold pins, it could simply be a Realistic 6J6.
Try a Telefunken E90CC in there instead of the 6J6.
