Hello all,
time for a brief update as promised....
PS bracket in and hooked up, choke back in, boards in with all the new McShane goodies installed..
Almost there, this is at Page 22 of the assembly instructions, just have about 1 and 1/2 more pages to go before final inspection and test power ups.. Maybe by Thanksgiving we will have something..
thanks for all the support so far..
J

Follow Ups:
Final wiring and solder joint check.. first initial power up... Getting a bit late so we'll try for sound and the AC adjustments tomorrow night. So far looks OK on the bias adjustment..
Very clean and neat work with attention to detail.
What once was a gnarly rats nest is now a work of art. Although I'm not surprised after viewing the link showing your 'finish process.'
All should take note of this end result!
What couplers do you plan to use?
sorry, brain saw "de-coupling"- coupling caps are K-40's they are in, you just can't see them under the boards, you can see them in the older post when I did the board pre-assemblage..
Keep in mind that the coupling caps in the Deuce are all inside multiple feedback loops. This tends to minimize the differences between caps tonally.
IMHO it is not money well spent to install big dollar boutique caps. In the cap kits I provide there are either film/foil polypropylene or K40 Russian PIOs - or a mix of both. They work VERY well!!
I did not know that about the Deuce - thanks Jim.
I've experienced the same when tuning GNFB. I wasted a lot of money on the higher quality resistors.
Cheers,
W
You also get a fair amount of heat where the coupling caps are located. Some brands of cap don't like that. I originally had some Solens as coupling caps in my Deuce - after a while the outer covering was shrinking.
should be the dual JJ's I might add an additional Poly film to it if Samra gets on me..
J
The dual JJs are DE coupling caps - those decoupling caps are designed to isolate the input tube from any power supply disturbances caused in the higher current stages.
You must have the patience of Job. Very nice work indeed.
I don't think I've ever seen such clean, professional restoration work. This amp will be a member of the family when it's done. :)
