I don't agree with others assessment of the JJ reliability against the GL.
In the past year I have come across dozens of tube failures by GL tubes from KT77's, KT88's and even the much touted 12AX7. In that time I've had very few JJ tube failures. These tubes included their E34L, KT77's and 300B's.
Unlike Jim below, I wouldn't put Gold Lions in anything. I don't trust them.BTW - all tubes were either factory stock in new equipment or purchased from one of two very reputable dealers in Canada and the USA.

I'm not sure the QC is great at any new production plant today. 'Factory matched' is meaningless. Get tubes from a dealer that thoroughly tests them. That said, I have had no problems with the Genelex or JJ tubes I have but I have not tried any KT77's.
I agree with Dan. And the JJ kt77 is a very good sounding tube. So any tube can fail, but at least the JJs are half the price.
You want something more reliable, try NOS. Just be prepared to pay.
Based on my experience with the new production Genalex I would definitely rate them as equal to NOS. No question about it.
I've tried the JJ KT-77s a number of times. My LOWEST reject rate on them was 40%. I tried them a number of times before I gave up on them.
I just noticed the other day that Telefunken tubes are back, sort of, made by JJ. Now do you think with the history/quality of Telefunken that JJ has their act together or does Telefunken have to go thru hundreds of tubes just to get a few good ones? Has anyone tried the new Telefunkens?

My second pair of JJs were even cheaper. Would you believe .. free? The original owner read all the horror stories and decided not even to try them. Have to confess that one of the horror stories was mine; I get an early pair with the anorexic pins that were a total disaster. To put it mildly, I was real surprised at how good the second pair, looking good inside and with proper pins, sounded.
I have used and like the JJ 6CA7..got 'em from cryoset but I've not tried the KT77 but probably should.
