In the opinion of fellow inmates would it be feasible to convert from expensive 6GT5 to the common and cheap 6AV5? I have accumulated a lifetime worth of spares for my DB130 amps.
If converted the amp would be used as a small venue PA amp. Comments pro or con are welcome.

The two tubes' specs look pretty close, should work. Depends if you can mount a 8 pin socket where the 9 pin socket was. And if you have enough headroom to fit inside the amp.
$15 is expensive? ESRC price. Of course you'll need new sockets... might be less work to add a 12VCT transformer in series with the heater to the sockets and then 12GT5 ($3) and 17GT5 ($5) would be options.
Tom, I don't mind the work, except drilling steel rivets. I have lots of NOS octal sockets and probably twenty or so spare 6AV5,
Actually, money isn't so much the issue as finding cosmetically matched 6GT5.
