The time has come to re-tube my VTL 450, I have spent 3 days reading old posts and would like an up to date opinion. Remembering we have 16 6550's 2 6350's and 2 12AT7's what is the best bang for the buck and what brings out the best sound.
Any-one with a VTL what are your favorite tubes. I think I'm leaning towards something that is long lasting but I can be swayed.
Don't forget it's not just power tubes, we have the phase splitter and driver to consider.
Thanks for your help.

The Genelex reissue KT88 is one of the finest 6550/KT88s ever made and I own all types of the new old stocks British made ones as well as Tungsol 6550s and I can tell you that the reissues have a liveliness that you don't get much of the time with the originals..I have my first quad I bought in 2007 and I cannot kill these tubes..The flashing is now starting to wear away a tiny bit on the sides but this is after a few thousand hours.
There was a brief period a couple years back where they had some supplier issues but this has long been corrected.I like the Genelex because of their sonic and mechanical strength...Just hold one in your hand and you'll see what I mean.

While I don't know the amp, I do know the best available big "beamie" is the "reissue" Gold Lion KT88. As for the 'T7s, genuine Mullard made CV4024s are something to consider.
Communicate with AA sponsor Jim McShane and discuss your needs.
The 6350 may be catch as catch can. RES shows a $15 listing for the 6350. Call and find out if they actually have stock on hand.

Respectfully, they are the "best" in your opinion Eli. Many others feel differently.
But VERY many feel the same - including me. And if his budget allows they'd be a fine choice!
