I had'nt tried using my Senn HD800 w'/' this amp which had been dead silent w/ my HFM HE-6. The faint hum became "seriously" faint when I switch the gain to low. Any low level
musical information makes it extremely difficult to hear this noise.
I think I'm bothered by it because up to this point I thought I had a "Subterrainean" noise floor
& to be honest I just bothered by the fact I'm searching for that trace of noise.
I'm using 2 NOVIB socket savers on my Siemens E84L tubes but none on my Brimar CV4034 , could that tube be where the low pitched "speck" of hum (& at this point I'm not
even sure where this noise is originating from) be the culprit ?
Follow Ups:
Try removing the socket savers to see if the noise persists.
Sorry, I should have said that.
Could this be a Headphone impedance matching problem ? The HP amp (a Consonance Cyber-20)showed no "speck"(or rather "micro speck") of hum when I'm using the HE-6 which are much lower impedance than the HD800.
This is really not an issue that is interfering with my enjoyment unless this is somehow robbing the amp of performance in someway I'm not aware of.
(Are any of us in this hobby sane enough to ignore problems that are probably not problems; Thanks, I'll go back in my corner now)
