to maybe brighten the sound of a Sherwood S5000 II amp?
I'm presently using a hodge podge of preamp tubes, and would like to get a quartet (linestage only) of 12ax7's that would make the Sherwood sound a bit more modern, a bit less vintage.

I recommend not using an apostrophe for pluralization. :)

The "reissue" TungSol has a touch of the NJ "chime". That seems to be what you want. Talk to AA sponsor Jim McShane or other reputable vendor.

For a bright 12AX7, the Sovtek 12AX7WA is very bright, but not recommended in phono sections. I prefer RCA 12AX7 black plate for vintage sound or the expensive Mullard 12AX7 tall plate.
