I recently finished my version of the RH6v6. It sounds great but I only have 2 6v6s for it. I've read reviews of new production ones but all of the discussion is about how they sound in guitar amps. Any opinions regarding how new production 6v6s sound in "hifi" amps would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Best I heard out of over twenty various 6V6 tubes from metal, to G glass to GT glass. Old stock Sylvania 6V6GT with oval plate (not plate with square shoulders) or expensive & rare Sylvania 6V6G (shoulder) glass tubes were best.
As mentioned, new manufactured Tung Sol 6V6GT is excellent per others although I never heard that tube.
The lot of twenty various 6V6 tubes was tested in a Eric Kingsbury Music Machine using a redesign 6SN7 phase inverter & 10K plate to plate primary audio transformers. The power tubes were triode connected per Eric's design. The amp was stunning, was on par with my DIY PP 45 amp producing slightly better dynamics and slightly less bass although abundant.
... is always nice {and sometimes surprising} to have another person's unbiased impression/experience somewhat parallel your own.

Although they aren´t new production I find the best sounding 6V6 tubes where made in Europe by RFT. The build quality is amazing as is the sound. Then there also is Standard 5S2D (6V6) from Sweden, also a fantastic 6V6.

I'd like to see what you built, espeically if it's in a league with 45s. 6SN7s and 6V6s are two of my favorite tubes. :)

According to fellow inmate Poindexter (Poinz) who has gone through darn near every 6V6 type ever made - the best he's ever heard is the reissue Tung-Sol 6V6GT. He uses them in his Music Machine amp.
Here's a quote from Poinz:
"In order of wonderfulness,
Tung-Sol Russian whatever,
ElectroHarmonix as above.
Interestingly, these have almost (welding
pattern) identical plate structures. Both
have terrific sound and bulletproof operating
consistency. The Tung-Sol are a little more
dynamically robust, tonally rich. Just a
little.
To me, these two trump every NOS 6V6 I have
experienced. As the purveyor of a commercial
6V6 amp, I am in hog heaven.
Aloha,
Poinz"
I've had a ton of feedback from other audio customers that rave about them as well. HIGHLY recommended - and affordable too.
6V6 expert Sir Poinz and forum sponsor Jim McShane both highly recomend the reissue Tung-Sol 6V6GT tubes.
I have a bunch of used vintage 6V6GT's the best of those are gray glass black plate RCAs, the black glass Tung-Sols are very good too.
Ask Jim what he suggests, the new Gold Lion tubes have been outstanding and I know they are making a 6V6GT now. Jim stocks tested and truly matched tubes at a fair price.
Mossback, I have a pair of grey glass NOS JAN-CHY 6v6gt made by Hytron with the accepted date of March 1951
Do you have any experience with them?
I also has a black glass NOS Tung-Sol 322829 (29th week of 1958?).
I'm thinking a guitar player might be interested in them or maybe it's time for me to build a Hi-Fi 6v6 amp.

Absolutely, You will be amazed at what the 6V6 can do.
I'm also a big fan of the 6V6, especially in SE. It seems to be limited only by the components and topology that surround it.
