To be honest it really threw me for a loop. As i said just one tube in one bank of three (push pull design) was cold despite heater being obviously on. Other tubes were hot so that touching them was very uncomfortable. Bias was ok, sound was ok. situation cleared when sockets were retightened. When reporting issue to factory, Mike was incredulous and suspicious (I routinely report any reliability issues to my suppliers). Hedid receive a amps with similar issues in the next few months, however, prompting him to switch suppliers, of course.also in regards to forked contacts i got an amp in with noisy output. Switching tubes channel cured issue, but i was curious and made a further
, more intensive investigation. Octal pin on one tube had a curious black mark, much like an arc mark. Lightly sanding the area and reinserting into original socket revealed fork tips had indeed arced and the carbon as a result was noise source.

In the case of the filaments, that would be true because the filaments draw an amp and a half...I know sockets can be issue..In this case tho where the negative bias draws less than a 1/10 of a mil if that,it barely has to touch to be effective...I don't dispute what your saying and I agree that it doesn't hurt to change the sockets for all practical purpose,I just don't think it will cure this problem.I'm more inclined to believe it was the tube or that cap but it's one of those problems that may resurface.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
