The manufacturer of my amp (Cary SLI-80) recommends disconnecting all inputs and speakers when setting the bias.
Is this necessary? If so why?
I have checked the ma with and without everything disconnected and the values only differ by about 5ma.
Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks,
Marlin
Follow Ups:
Some Cary's insert an actual current meter on the cathode of the output tubes rather than measuring voltage over a 10 ohm resistor. Inserting the meter can really thump the speakers, so that is most likely why. I really do not like to run a tube amp without a load.
"Inserting the meter can really thump the speakers..."
Seriously? Why would anyone do that with AC power applied??
