Just recently got a new power amp. An arc hd 220. It's a hybrid that has 6922 voltage tubes (electroharmonix) and a 6h30 (sovtek) driver tubes on each side , for its input stage. Which set of tubes have more effect on the sound?. The voltage or the driver tubes? Can some one explain in laymans terms how this tube impimentation works? Any suggestions for better quality replacements? Is it worth it to roll tubes in this circuit?
Thanks!

Well, I couldn't snag much info on the amp itself, but as I understand it it has a 6922 preamp, 6H30 driver, and transistor output. Must be a nice unit ^^Anyway, when it comes to futzing with the tubes, first and foremost, try to get a schematic to see the voltages going into the stages. The choice of the 6H30 is of some concern. Here's the kicker-snippet from the source linked below:
"This double triode, although designed for high-current pulse mode operation, can be seen as an improved version of the E182CC-SQ vacuum tube and therefore perfect as Line Preamplifier and driver for power tubes."
Looking at the data on a E182CC, and comparing back to the 6H30, they're rated differently. The 6H30 looks bananas in comparison. And I would bet good money that it's not a tube you want to screw with hahaha! I would say this: stock up on some well-selected 6H30's.
http://tubedata.milbert.com/sheets/030/e/E182CC.pdfAs for the 6922's, you probably have some play. I think any respectable manufacturer would not lead you into error regarding this. I would double check, but I'd say it's good news cause there's a slew of 'em out there. On that note, I'd consider 6H23n (and 6H23n-EB). It should be compatible (and it seems decent by eye of the sheet, though I can't read Russian).

Happy rolling!

May your tubes be lively and long-lasting. Holy be thy heater.

I don't know your amp specifically either, but can relate an experience I had rolling tubes in an ARC SP6B. The company told you which tubes might have an impact on the sound. They were all 12AX7s BTW which I had a few to play with, as well as a variety of 5751s. I my view no roll made hardly the slightest bit of difference in the sound. I am fairly certain that you should have few problems trying out 6922s from various manufacturers. It just might not matter all that much.
