Guys,
My KT88Z came in and I have a question on the rating listed on their sides; their all listed as Ia1 26 Ma, what does this represents and I thought the #s would be higher for a KT88? I've read somewhere on this forum that 50mA would be ideal for this tube.
Please advise so I can make arrangements for replacement.
Thanks,
Wig

The number on your tube is useless unless you :
- buy from the same supplier who will use the same device to measure the new tubes OR
- get information about the conditions this value is obtained ( type of tester, Va, Vg2 Vg etc.
that 26mA sticker on the tube box or tube base has nothing to do with the Zīs correct bias level at work. that 26 mA reading only documents the result of the internal factory matching with their own equipment and special internal testing parameters/methods however chosen by shuguang.
forget that reading for your Zīs future disposal!Nunki

Guys,
Thanks for your responses, I'll let them run-in and wait for the long 300 hrs to see how they really sounds...
That current draw isn't all the tubes will do, it just means that on that particular tester, and at that tester's settings, each tube drew 26mA. It's more for matching than actual full-power current rating. Those tubes will draw whatever your amp's bias is set for. If a tube red-plates however, then that's a problem with either the tube or the bias setting.
For example, my tester's settings draw nearly 90mA from 6550/KT88, but in actual use I have then set for 52mA per tube.

That does sound low. But you can't really assume much from those plate current numbers unless you know the test settings (plate voltage, bias voltage) under which the test was conducted. Are those stated anywhere on the box?
