I like the Pope tubes but the new TS are more 'accurate'. Preference and the associated gear all play a part.
Follow Ups:
In spite of claims to the contrary, 1 size does NOT fit all.
The list of variables is lengthy, including: what room, whose ears, and associated equipment.
What is known is that a number of variants have proven themselves well, in more than 1 "rig". Experimentation is needed to find a particular listener's best.
JMO, if funds are limited (welcome real world), go with the TS "reissue".

Russian 6P6S, mid 70's OTK from Reflector. Much more listenable to me than the fast clear focused and soul dead bass shy TSRI. The TSRI is the least tube like tube out of the 4 6v6 tubes I've listen to.I personally think it is a diservice to be recommendint the TSRI with out a warning. Fast, clean, excellent soundstage, very clear, smooth, bass shy and soul dead. Just my humble (very humble) opinion. The Russian tubes are sweet, fantastic cymbals,do not extend the treble tho exaggerate hiss like the TSRI. Better bass than the TSRI. Tweaker
Eli, that is so true!
Here is a nice quad of 5992's. A pricey experiment. ;-)
