Hi mbnxo1, I and at least one other person ( a guitar person) have found the TSRI bright and lean in the bass. I actually prefer the Chinese tube although the clarity, speed and focus of the TSRI are impressive. I also find it somewhat lean in the lower mids, a generally soulless tube, it lacks the mojo that the 6v6 is supposed to have. I'm leaning toward the GE 7408 because of others description of the tube as having the best bass and a large sound stage. I haven't heard it yet. Keep me posted on your experiments. Thanks, Tweaker

But this discussion was not about use in guitar amps. People reading this post need to understand the performance in AUDIO gear is the issue under discussion.
They also need to understand that:
a) Tube performance in guitar amps is VERY dependent on the amp, the guitar, and the players skill and style (including what effects pedals, pickups, etc. he/she may choose to use), and...
b) Guitarists opinions of what sounds "good" varies even more widely than do opinions opinions of what sounds "good" in the audio world - IMHO by as significant margin
So be careful about using guitar amp reviews to judge audio gear tube performance.

IMHO, the above applies to audio amps too. Caps, IC's etc. have an impact on sonics.
Well I'm not Jim and I don't know who you are but you seem to be Mr. Know It All. But I don't agree. ;-)

A cost no object mil spec tube that is a drop in sub for 6v6. Special Nomex glass, ceramic spacers instead of mica, extra support rods and vibration tolerant construction. Current price is steep at 200/2 but that price will only rise in the future. cheers, Dak
Yes, it's a long lasting tube but may not be the best sounding in a given piece of gear. ;-)
Of course what you say is true for any brand of tube.
My experience with the Bendix line of tubes is that they are very neutral sounding. What you are listening to is not the amplification device but everything else in you amplifier. regards, Dak
"What you are listening to is not the amplification device but everything else in you amplifier."True. That is why there is no *best* tube just the one(s) that work best in your gear.

I use NOS 12V6 now as opposed to 6V6's so I have not tried any new production other than the JJ 6V6S in another amp I no longer own. I liked the NOS 6V6 Sylvania and GE I had much better. I am a big fan of the 6/12V6 TS clear glass shiny black plate and TS black glass. I also really like the Sylvania gray glass. 6/12V6's are some of my favorite tubes.
I've found that the 5992 run a bit better (and sound better) at lower idle wattage of dissipation. Compared to 6V6GT of the same vintage. Like 8-9 watts per tube, in a Class AB1 push-pull amp.
Do you find this true? Thanks!
We have a winner!
