The 274B is a 5R4 and not a 5U4.I looked at the power supply of the AN1 amp and you have a pair of 47uf,series connected caps which exceeds the original rating of the 274B at that voltage.I would use an RCA or Sylvania or Raytheon 5U4G if you want to experiment.I just found one for you.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.

Where have you found the maximum rating for the 274B?

Ahh,
the vintage datasheet doesn't go into that detail. thanks.

Notice it how shows 4uf on cap IP? You can actually go higher if you have lower voltage but not where that AN amp runs.He can also run a GZ34 with no issues I would think as I do that in the Mac Mc60s and the Grommes 260a amps.

I understand that the max input cap value is also partially based on the "Impedance per Plate....180 ohms ".
If there isn't 180 ohms, either in each half of the secondary winding or as resistors in series with each plate, the allowable cap value goes down further.
This spec is regular ignored in many designs.
Of course, with a choke input filter there is no Impedance per Plate requirement.
I like the WE datasheet for the 274a, also information that's ignored by some.
A critical inductance choke input filter has many real world benefits.
