I know I can search, tried in fact, but the flood of info on all things Amperex does pose a challenge, so begging pardon could someone drop a word on how these tubes fit into the Amperex desirable index? ... said to be dimple dish, Holland.Purchased used but measure very strong (emissions) on my tester. Popped into my pre, (takes 2 6922 only) last night. Left on today with CD Player on repeat, will listen to gain impressions and compare with Genalex GL 6922 on weekend (likely).
Tentative initial impression ... well let's just say the "run in" today had better trigger change for the better.

Will repeat with a pair of these BB 6DJ8; said to be circa mid-1960s, stage getter. No early impression but also measure strong, not quite as strong as the PQ pair but strong all the same ... so begging pardon again any comment on these welcome.
[I'm assuming I can use the CANUCK stamped images, I bought the tubes after all! ;)]

Since it's difficult for me to relax with and enjoy "hyper detail", I find myself agreeing more with Sondek regarding the sound of the Amperex 6DJ8 A frame dimple disc. I compared it with quite a few other types of Amperexes in my system, and easily found it to be the most satisfying, especially over the USA made 6922s and 7308s. To my ears and in my system, the latter tubes are too clean sounding as well as lacking the sense of body, ambient decay and musicality conveyed by the A frame dimple discs...Additionally, I own the 6922 Genalex Gold Lion re-issues, and have compared them with the A frame Amperexes. I do like the Genalexes, however, I find them just a bit too dark, and not quite able to clearly capture midrange detail the way the 6DJ8 A frame Amperexes do.
Suppose you were one of those for whom single-ended flea powered power amplifier sound was the be all end all . You know the type that is completely oblivious to the complaints such as for example that the very high end is practically missing in action, or that the low end lacks extension and definition. Such things would be like water of a duck's, you having long been addicted to those "magic mids" and moments of "hyper-realism" to the point where anything else is simply a false and evil construct to be scorned and rejected.
Now further suppose that one dark day you woke up to find your flee-powered amp and high efficiency speakers has been replaced by a massive solid state amplifier teamed up with medium or low efficiency speakers that you'd be forced to live with it forever. The only thing you had power to change was your preamp, nothing else.
Well then you could go out and get a preamp that takes a single pair of 6922/6DJ8 tubes and pop a pair these Amperex PQ A-Frames in place. Then, perhaps with the benefit of a little, or a lot, depending upon the degree of your affliction, of some hallucinatory drug, you'd be back in single-ended flea powered sound La-La Land.
That's what I think of those tubes; and as correctly predicted, they're not for me.
[Hint to self: Put em' away and avoid further exposure, it's a slippery slope Bro', slip over the edge and you'll likely never crawl out.]

Uh, yeah. I think you got it right. If you want hyper-detail and extension top and bottom, then these are not the tubes for you. They are rolled off on both ends compared to say Siemens, but what they do in the middle is very, very nice. There is NO single tube in the 6DJ8 family that is the right pill for every ailment, and although the A-frame dimple-disc may not have scratched your itch this time, hang on to them as you never know when you'll find the right spot for them.
It did pass my mind that in 10-15 when I can't hear those highs any longer they may be irresistible! ;)
I didn't really *get it* until I swapped back to the Genalex GL and reflected on what I had heard in juxtaposition ... those mids ... Wow!

The Bugle Boys are more conventional, if that's the way to put it. Ironically I think I prefer the slightly darker Genalex GL, extended but in a more subtle manner, because they make vinyl quieter, and I listen to a *lot* of vinyl. For now I'm enjoying the BBs.

A-frame, dimple disc are very nice tubes. They might be my favorite after some late 50's D-getters I have.
It is a very, very good tube! I used it in a Music Reference RM9 stereo tube amplifier with great results. It bested all comers like Sovtek, EH, JJ and 70's era Siemens.
Well they definitely opened up, that's for sure!
Still I don't think they're for me, they're very odd sounding, to me anyway.

You have made the notion of tube preference by people other than yourself irrelavent. It always has to boil down to your taste and preferences. That said some people including myself who encounter a need to replace a tube you are not familiar with, require suggestions the gain an understanding of which tubes options to be considering.
