I know this is what was being sold in the 1960's but these amps are worth money these days and should be treated with respect . I had a ST20 in that a guy did a bodge job by replacing the safety resistor with a 25 watt type . It had leaky coupling caps so the EL84 were pulling gobs of current , it lasted about a week before the transformer gave out . Those Leak power transformers get REALLY hot , even without the pre hanging off them and like I said it's a marginal part . Nothing like what you claimed at all , sorry mate !Al

Maybe the US versions are acting different because we run 117vac to 120vac on our primary and my ST50s do not get that hot.My TL25 doesn't get very hot either. It gets warm after being on for six hours but you can touch it.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
Could be the 60Hz line frequency . Over here , these things cook away after a few hours . Not the sort of equipment I would like to leave unattended...

That's probably what it is..The funny part is,I use a 5AU4/5V3 rectifier and it draws 3.7amps of fil current on the 5v line and yet the power trafo rubs cooler than with the GZ34..Now figure that one out.It holds steady 5.1vac so I know the 5v line isn't under stress.I think maybe that is more from the heat the tube throws off.
The Leak amps sure sound beautiful.
