My first post on Audio Asylum and a quick picture of my Jolida JD-801 amplifier with some KT150's installed. I have only had the amp for about a week and just got the tubes yesterday.
I'm really happy with the sound. I probably should give it some time to settle in now before replacing the 12ax7 tube. Which I would like some recommendations on :)

So far I am really enjoying the tubes in the amplifier. I spoke with the guys over at Jolida a few times before purchasing the amplifier and they recommended I get a set of KT150s for it. So I would assume that it would be safe to run the tubes in the amp since they probably know their product better than anyone else. This is really my second step into tube amplifiers. My first attempt was a pair of pre-owned SET Audio Mirrors that had a horrible transformer buzz out of both amps. I couldn't deal with the noise, and didn't want to drop another few hundred bucks to have them repaired, so for the same money I picked up this Jolida new. It's quiet and sounds really good. I'm happy with it, but I know it won't be my last tube amplifer :)
Any good recommendations on a 12AX7 for my Jolida? I have heard good things about the E.A.T. tubes.
Rob
IMHO, wait until the big bottles settle in before changing the 12AX7.
What tube is in there now and what do you not like about the sound?
It has the Tung-sol 12ax7 that came with the amp. I am thinking to give it a few weeks, let everything settle down. There is nothing about the sound I don't like, just hearing that by changing that to a little nicer tube it would sound different, not sure if better, but different.
I am learning this stuff as I go. I will say this, it is very enjoyable listening to the music through this amplifier.
Thanks,
Rob
The 12AX7 is the preamp tube and it will make a difference. Give the power tubes 100 hours and then tube roll to your ears content. What does your system consist of? Speakers etc.
Pretty basic system. I have the Jolida JD801 Integrated, the JD9 phono stage, Music Hall Dac 253, RPM 5.1, Adcom GDV-850, B&W 683 speakers & B&W ASW610. Here's a pic I took yesterday of the system.
I can't/won't make any suggestions regarding 12AX7 tubes because I'm not familiar with your gear. I'm sure someone will chime in.
Dennis Had makes an amp that runs KT150's single ended. He really loves them and does not like the KT120 running SE. In a push-pull application the KT120 has been super.
But for the people that have bought KT150's, I have heard only good things. We've run them in PrimaLuna gear here. PrimaLuna ProLogue Premium and DiaLogue Premium are both compatible with KT150's. The head office in The Netherlands states there is a measurable power increase. With EL34's both amps measure about 35WPC. With KT150's you get 48WPC in the DiaLogue Premium and 45 WPC in the ProLogue Premium.
They aren't cheap, but I think that if they last it still isn't that much cash.
It will be interesting to see what ARC, Cary, VTL, and others say about it. I don't see them using KT150's for production amps unless they make a statement product of some sort. I think some high-end brands use too many cheap parts considering what they charge.
He has one for sale.

Quicksilver has made the move to TS150s for their top line V4 monos that also includes upgrades to the trannies. Having spoken to Mike Sanders, he is very pleased with the tube, QC and performance wise, over his current JJkt88s. He recommends replacement in older versions of his V4s though you will not get the output of current production QS equipped with upgraded trannies, but they will sound supior in every way compared to the Kt88.
When I'm ready for output tube replacement I plan to follow the above advise, though they will cost more, the life expectancy and musical improvement seem worth the extra cost.
and he is over the moon about these 150s. He thinks it is the best audio tube in decades. Every amp he had on hand that could take the 150s had them plugged into the sockets!
All I know is I heard a few of his amps there, and they sounded fine to me!
Steve
I just bought 50 of them at New Sensor and while I still prefer some NOS RCA's these sound extremely good to my ears.
(Dealer disclaimer)
Even if your power and audio output transformers can handle it,you probably won't gain anything until you up the voltage parameters and drive signals that are conducive to the KT150.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
fits perfectly in recent easter ceremonies!:))
The times, they are changing...

At least you didn't say 4th of July ceremonies.

Methinks Nunki was referring to the egg shape of the tube. As I understand it this reduces microphinics.
