It seems that many single ended amps are available, but very few using a single EL34 per channel. Is there one you like? Suggestions???? I'd like to try one.
Aren't transistors alien technology?

Not a beauty to behold, but probably sounds pretty sweet!
Tubelab amps!

I favor KT66, EL34, and 5881 on my amp and very pleased except with Mullard "oo" fX2 El34 tubes. The Winged "C" sounds much better to me than the Mullards.
You can also build the TSE or the PP El84 amp. I have both the Simple SE and SE(300B). Very nice sounding amps.
You favour KT66, EL34, and 5881 tubes over your triodes?
big j.
"... only a very few individuals understand as yet that personal salvation is a contradiction in terms."
big j,
No, just on the particular Simple Single ended Amp using Pentode strapped as triode. The amp can used KT88 also and 6V6, as well as can be wired in UL(with or without CFB) mode.
The DHT SET have their own unique sound as we know and is a different animal than simple SE amp. Push comes to shove, I will go with DHT all the time.
The Nelson Audio SE-8 has been around for quite some time. I've owned mine for over seven years. It's the best sounding amp I've tried but unfortunately it doesn't jive with most of my favourite speakers. I use push-pull el34s or solid-state most of the time but I'll keep the SE-8 around just in case I find the right high efficiency speakers to match it.
I have the Image 34i PP integrated and it is very musical. Sounds great with Silverline Sonata-III.
I also have a Yixin Audio 34B SE amplifier, which uses one EL-34 tube per channel. It sounds even better!
I bought an assembled TRK3488 on Agon and it is a very nice amp. It came with Kiwame resistors and I changed the caps to suit my taste. I prefer 6550/KT88's in it but I have not tried any EL 34's other than the stock Shuguangs. It may not be the best of breed but it's a keeper and sounds way better that it should for the money. A well designed single ended pentode amp sounds excellent. There are similar commercial amps out there and several small builders that are well regarded.
The review is long winded but accurate.

The reason you don't see many single ended pentode amps and is because most of them are home brew being they are easy to build.I would build a single ended pentode amp that can run KT88s, or KT66s,or EL34s and use a 20% UL tap.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
Build one and I think you will be quite pleased with the right speakers. You certainly have plenty of tubes to roll through one. :-)
Yes..I heard the one Kegger built at the AK Fest three years ago and that was the best sounding single ended amp I heard at the the show that day.I was not expecting that at all.

Jeff Korneff really liked the single ended KT88 and was building mono blocks. The best SEP I have had was a Shindo Cortese f2A tubed amp.
I actually built my SE amp for EL34s but
after trying many other tubes in it -
I found I preferred anything else over it.
Even the KT77 had no appeal to me.
This is in triode with a 5K OPT.
Favorites are ...
GL KT66 - Dynamic and extended
TS 6L6G - Warm and smooth
Depending on mood and music playing.
