I have a few tungsram 12ax7's. That all look the same and have the little square badge on the getter support but one has a rectangle looking piece of plastic. What is this?

It is another piece of mica to provide centering action for the top sheet. Very common on older type tubes
Stu,
You know, I've owned plenty of Tungsram ECC83 and ECC82's. I don't remember ever seeing one with that plastic wing on the top mica. I'll have to look at my stash, again.
Never seen in small 9 [in tubes, but in 2A3's and the like.
Kinda hard to tell from the photo but originally those prongs on the mica sheets are supposed to crush against the glass envelop to center the structure within the tube. I suspect the mica is undersized, and the wing added in order tension the assembly.
One side of the mica shows the points not deformed as it should
That little rectangle is also mica; there are few cheap plastics that can stand the service environment...:) maybe none.
cheers,
Douglas
Friend, I would not hurt thee for the world...but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.
