I think you meant that question for Woodrow?
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.

Yes, it was meant for EI.
My came from Grant Fidelity. And yes, they are settling in nicely. I keep tube swapping and not letting anything break in properly. I also have some black glass 6cA7 treasure tubes that haven't had more that 25 hours on them.
Aren't transistors alien technology?
Please let us know if your EL34s from GF came with Amplitrex data. I had 2 different PSVANE Type IIs fail within a month. Other reports that PSVANE even from Grant Fidelity went bad. Given the fail rate and bad QC in general of PSVANE it makes one wonder how reliable "working" in-spec tubes will even last. Shady.
EI,
Not being a putz but you have to endure the pain and let the tubes settle in. Just try to not listen critically. Your head plays tricks on you if you don't. I just turn the volume down for 100+ hours.
I have a quad from Grant Fidelity in my Primaluna Dialogue 2. I think they are fantastic. The only other power tubes I have tried that are in the same league are Shuguang Treasures.
As they break in in my Cayin 50T, I think you might be right. I am actually preferring these to the Treasure 6CA7s I also have been using. They look sexy as can be and now the mids are doing that blooming thing all the audiophools talk about. At $500 a quad, I hope they last me a few years. If they have a short life I won't be spending this much again and I will stick with high dollar prepubescent and the EH EL34s. If I get 2-3 years... I will likely retube with these again.
Aren't transistors alien technology?
I am not sticking with high dollar prepubescents. That was some sort of funny auto correct going on there! That should read high-dollar preamp tubes!
Aren't transistors alien technology?
whew. i had to do a triple take on that one!
