I have 19 of the original metal base EL34s left and I sold 14 of the over the last three years. Here is a few of them that all test in the mid 90s.
I thought I really liked the sound but after long periods of listening, they didn't set me ablaze for the prices they get as they still suffer the inherent issues associated with many EL34s of the day of lacking detail at the extremes.I personally like the five staple Telefunkens with the pupils in the plate as well as the RFT Siemens, and the Dutch Amperex EL34 sq D type. The RFT Siemens were my favorites.
The tubes you have are no doubt an exact copy of the original because Philips has ownership in Shuguang or investment as does Samsung but I would imagine Philips supplied the original recipe for the metal based tubes.
I can see why you like the EHs because they are very much like the RFT Siemens which IMHO didn't have the flabbiness that many EL34s of the day had..They even have the protruding staples of old days of RFT.
I would let them run longer because you may grow to like them after a long warmup.I would say your metal based EL34s may very well best my originals going by Shuggie's reputation..They build a nice entry level EL34 that looks like a semi carbon plate for very little money. It is a very nice sounding EL34 as well.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.

I have not heard them but a poster on another had one go viral. The amp he was using was not named. I imagine that they are very good tubes but they will likely need 150-200 hours to settle in.
Where did you source them?
I think you meant that question for Woodrow?

Yes, it was meant for EI.
My came from Grant Fidelity. And yes, they are settling in nicely. I keep tube swapping and not letting anything break in properly. I also have some black glass 6cA7 treasure tubes that haven't had more that 25 hours on them.
Aren't transistors alien technology?
Please let us know if your EL34s from GF came with Amplitrex data. I had 2 different PSVANE Type IIs fail within a month. Other reports that PSVANE even from Grant Fidelity went bad. Given the fail rate and bad QC in general of PSVANE it makes one wonder how reliable "working" in-spec tubes will even last. Shady.
EI,
Not being a putz but you have to endure the pain and let the tubes settle in. Just try to not listen critically. Your head plays tricks on you if you don't. I just turn the volume down for 100+ hours.
I have a quad from Grant Fidelity in my Primaluna Dialogue 2. I think they are fantastic. The only other power tubes I have tried that are in the same league are Shuguang Treasures.
As they break in in my Cayin 50T, I think you might be right. I am actually preferring these to the Treasure 6CA7s I also have been using. They look sexy as can be and now the mids are doing that blooming thing all the audiophools talk about. At $500 a quad, I hope they last me a few years. If they have a short life I won't be spending this much again and I will stick with high dollar prepubescent and the EH EL34s. If I get 2-3 years... I will likely retube with these again.

I am not sticking with high dollar prepubescents. That was some sort of funny auto correct going on there! That should read high-dollar preamp tubes!
Aren't transistors alien technology?
whew. i had to do a triple take on that one!
