thanks for the information. I really am happy to be coming back to tubes.
The only question is this. My Sherwood is obviously vintage. I do need a remote volume control. My stereo is across the room. And my source is a network player. The four channels I listen to have VERY different volumes.
I looking into passive IR controls. And basically they cost more than my stereo and source. My last consideration is just a long - LONG interconnect with a line level pot near my listening area.

Follow Ups:
A buffered volume control and long interconnects is acceptable. A passive setup combined with long interconnects results in HF info. loss.
It's time to DIY.
