I know I'm likely shooting in the dark on this but is it likely that a 6678 would sound better and if so what about the difference between a military tube and a 6678???? Thanks, Tweaker

Thanks Mike. Have you compared the standard yellow to the green. Are 6678 specs the same as mil spec? I'm assuming that the greens for the navy are mil spec. Tough questions. It sounds like you are familiar with these tubes. I think they blow away the RCA bp except in the bass. And every thing else I have tried. Have you an opinion on anything that would beat the Syl?? I'll have to try one, either the green or 6678. Thanks, Tweaker
Where'd you hear about these? :)

Yo Mt..., I would not get a 6678 tube unless it has 6678 printed on the tube. I saw a photo of a pair with yellow printing. I would not buy the green label unless either the box or label has USN (navy) on it. Tweaker
I do lots of research. I think a tube dealer mentioned the 6678 and military tubes are known to be a higher grade. I think your wife must hear these tubes! I trust her judgment. Yellow 6678, green military made for the navy. Soon I (we) must try at least one of them. I'll probable go for the military? The 6678 is an industrial grade. I think military trumps industrial spec wise?? Love the Syl. Am getting much better bass from a interconnect upgrade. Tweaker
I'll look into chasing down a pair. Thanks for the info.

In hifi audio,we tend to want to the least microphonic tubes we can get because that translates into lower background noise, better detail, and better dynamics because excessive noise or microphonics in a tube will be amplified as signal thru an amplifier and will rob a lot of the good specs of the amp or preamp.
That said, military and industrial tubes tend to have less microphonics many times because they are built a bit more rugged or they at least test better than the standard issue tubes most likely.
Does this mean the 6678 will sound better? All you can do is try it and see how you like it.The green Syl 6U8s are very good as well and that's why I say try it.
Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.
Once again on the 6678. It is designed for mobil equiptment and a 3 cell battery use, whatever that means, ruggitized? In your experiance are these higher quality tube deeper in the bass? Thanks, Tweaker
Not necessarily deeper in the bass but they tend to be quieter and when tubes are more quiet,we tend to hear more intricate details and the overall dynamic structure can pick up.These tubes are cheap enough where I would say, give it a try.

Thanks for the reply Mike. Probably the military is better than the industrial? Tweaker
