You have a nice 6V6 amp. What speakers are you driving? I know -0- about 6U8 tubes.

way up high in the expenditure department I have found two input tubes in the 5670 and 6u8a category I like a whold lot. You are very correct that you just have to hear for yourself. Took me at least 6 to 8 or so tubes before I could (maybe settle). I'll get into the 6u8a discussion if you need some info on this subject, Setdude, I'm using the only acoustic suspension speaker without a metal dome tweeter that could go below 50 that I could fine without building my own. Those days are over for now. It's the Cambridge Soundworks Model 6. Very good for what it is. Will be much better after I spend $2000 to find the holy grail of 6v6. Tweaker
this one is easy: I have done the same study on 6v6s as the gentleman above on 12au7....
and the verdict is 5992 by Bendix, buy a significant margin...
With RCA 6v6gty.... not too far behind....
with GE and Sylvania at the bottom
and Raytheon CBS brimar in the middle....
the surprise is of course Tungsol Reissue neck and neck , but perhaps a hair behind the RCA.....
CHINESE not in the same league strange....ok

I wish it was. Other peoples opinions are often way off from what I like or perceive. The 5992 is to rich for my blood. Some say the RCAs are great for guitar but have muddy bass. I find the TSRI, while extreamely clear, fast, focused it is imho very bass shy, low midrange shy, and thus with out sonority, shall we say , soul. There have been a number of reports on the great bass of 3 different 7408 models... Easy It would be easy if I had them all to test. Tweaker
FWIW.....................................
There is a crossover mod for the CSW model 6 speaker, in the October 2001 issue of Audioxpress Magazine.
The word is, that it is a GOOD upgrade.
The bad news is.....it will VOID your warranty.
