I have used tube socket adapters for many years and I think most of them work great. The secret is to use a tube that is very close electrically, if not exactly the same to the tube you were using. Loctal 7N7/ 7AF7 to 6SN7, 6CG7 to 6SN7 and 6SL7 to 12AX7 adapters have worked especially well for me. I have also very good luck with 6AR6 to 6L6, 6BG6GA to 6L6 and 6AQ5A to 6V6 adapters. Just make sure you know what tube substitutes can work well in a given amp.

I owned a number built by SinglePower (no longer in business). They worked, but the construction was a bit shoddy. I now have only 2 of Jac's 7N7/7AF7 to 6SN7 adapters. They work perfectly and are well constructed.

I still own several SinglePower ECC adapters and they work fine. I still use a SP 12AV7/6414 adapter for gain duty in my old Supra. Most of mine were handbuilt and are not the fancy looking ones. But, I like the adapters I bought off an ebay seller in NC best .... but he doesn't seem to be selling them anymore. I have also had good luck with amitytubes adapters from China also purchased on ebay.

I think I had 3 different types, and they all worked. Only one failed (one of the loctal to octal) after quite while because the top was poorly glued to the base.
Jac's loctal to octal is really well made.
