Looks like the real deal. Here is the photo from the ebay listing on the two I have coming. The photo was hazy, but I could make out what I needed to know. Print on the base is hard to read but his listing said JAN CHS 6SN7GT and the date is visible as the 231, ( 1952 - week 31 )
Those look like the real deal and the date code is exactly what you want. Good score! One of the best 6SN7 ever made.
Really not that uncommon a find if you spend some time searching. But most people settle for modern "basic" Russian or Chinese 6SN7 for similar dollars. Or spend 2 or 3 X as much for "premium" modern tubes. But that's OK, more premium old stock 6SN7s for you and me.
Enjoy the roll!
I had spent some time cruising ebay and audio classified locations and got lucky ( as far as the price that is ). As Mendel said, you can still find them without mortgaging the house! I saw a few under the old US TV makers ( Admiral, Motorola, Maganavox, Philco, etc) as decent dollars.
I also read some of Mendels, Len's, Robert H. and others comments on this tube and they were helpful and informative. As with any tube, lots of opinions out there on the validity of the "Bad Boys" sonics vs the other 2hole and VT231 versions. The internals photo that was taken by Len here at Audio Asylum and posted a number of times shows the structural differences. And it matters not one cent to me that some large internet re-sallers discount the difference as "hog wash". Too many well seasoned and informed audio enthusiasts of whom I trust their reviews/opinions have clearly stated this tubes qualities.
Forgive me, but anybody who says the difference is hog-wash obviously has their head up their arse and therefore can't hear the difference.
I forget now who it was that originally posted this pic, may have been Len, but the one on the left is/was a '52 Bad Boy and the one on the right is a garden variety Syl 6SN7.
