Yes I agree the stock set of tubes do strike a nice synergy. Tube rolling the VAC has been the most time-consuming and difficult to get "right." For example, I could never get the amp to sound right with ANY non-stock 6SN7 combo when stock 300B's are used.Major overhaul in all the tubes, and to very specific combo's are necessary. If opportunity arises, do try this combo: National Union Grey glass 6SN7-->KenRad VT231-->AVVT 32B. Took me literally years to get this combo worked out; even then, Herbie tube dampers on 6SN7's and very specific set of cabling, power cords were mandatory. In this configuration, I honestly do not know what more an amplifier can be asked to do :)
